Providence Wins Fortress Invitational At T-Mobile Arena

The Providence Friars, Ohio St. Buckeyes, Cornell Big Red and Army Black Knights gathered in Las Vegas for one of the top midseason tournaments in all of college hockey. The Friars came out on top after a thrilling shootout victory over Cornell. 2017 VGK draft pick Jack Dugan was named MVP of the tournament.

1/5 Championship: Providence vs Cornell

Vegas Golden Knights prospect Jack Dugan led Providence College to victory in the championship matchup against Cornell in the Fortress Invitational on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Both teams notched a marker in the first, but Parker Ford put Providence ahead in the latter half of the second with an assist from Jack Dugan. Providence held on to the lead until the final minute of the third when Cornell found the back of the net. After two unsuccessful OT attempts, a sudden death shootout was forced and Dugan notched the winning goal.

1/5 Consolation: Ohio State vs Army

In the consolation matchup of the Fortress Invitational, John Keranen opened the scoring with his first-career goal and Army carried a lead into intermission. Midway through the second, Tanner Laczynski scored shorthanded to even the scoring for the Buckeyes. With the score still deadlocked at one after regulation, Buckeye senior Carson Meyer tucked away the game winner at the 2:27 mark of overtime to give Ohio State the win.

1/4 Cornell vs Ohio State

Cornell found themselves in the win column after they defeated Ohio State, 5-2, during their first appearance at the Fortress Invitational. Ben Berard opened up the scoring for Cornell in the first half of the opening period. Big Red tallied two more in the second and one more in the third. OSU notched a two goals in the final 20, but Cornell came out on top after collecting their fifth of the night. Cornell advances to face Providence in the championship game.

1/4 Providence vs Army

Golden Knights prospect Jack Dugan, who leads the NCAA in scoring, found the back of the net midway through the first period with a power-play goal at the 9:23 mark. Five minutes later, Luke Johnson doubled the Friars' lead heading into the first intermission. After a scoreless second, Providence and Army exchanged goals in the third to send the Friars ahead with a 3-1 victory.
