Vegas Golden Knights Continue to Honor Oct. 1 Victims and Heroes

Eight years after the Oct. 1 tragedy that rocked the Las Vegas community, the Vegas Golden Knights continue to honor the lives lost and highlight the bravery from first responders that night.

The VGK Foundation partnered with Vitilant and Downtown Summerlin to host their annual blood drive at City National Arena, in honor of the victims.

After the Vegas Strong Fund was selected to oversee the construction of the forthcoming Forever One Memorial, coming in 2027, the VGK Foundation kicked off the fundraising with a $1 million donation.

Ahead of their preseason game on Oct. 1, VGK players donned commemorative “Vegas Strong” hats as they spoke about the organization’s impact following the 2017 tragedy.

This year’s Oct. 1 preseason game also featured a replica of the Forever One Memorial, giving fans on the concourse a closer look at what they can expect. Forever One Memorial will serve as a special place for the community and those affected to come together and heal. As they say on their website, “The memorial’s primary goal is to pay tribute to those affected by the events of 1 October 2017, while simultaneously celebrating the spirit of unity that rose from this tragedy.”

As survivors, first responders and family of the victims were celebrated during this Oct. 1 game against the Avalanche, players took time before the game to meet them and hear their stories.

Nearly a decade after the devastating events on Oct. 1, 2017, the Golden Knights are as passionate as ever about bringing the Las Vegas community together to remember the lives lost and celebrate the heroic actions taken to save lives that night.
